This is another winner from Vera Greentea, I am so happy to see the stuff coming out of her publishing company it isn’t even funny. This is a series of short stories, Papa, The Princess and the Robot, and Nightbirds. Papa is an interesting premise, what happens when your favorite super hero washes up on the beach dead and possesses your child to continue on the process of fighting crime. It is disturbing and dark, but wonderfully brilliant. The Princess and the Robot is another grim tale of genetic manipulation to save a kingdom, wherein the King sacrifices his daughter and then has to figure out what to do with her after the kingdom is saved. There are so many unanswered questions in this one that your imagination can and for me did go wild with what happens next. The final story Nightbirds is another twisted morality play where alien/human bird people are in charge of a failed colony or post-apocalyptic earth and people transform into human/bird hybrids in the end. We all need to flee something, but when we become dangerous to ourselves and our friends, we need to stop and think about removing ourselves from the places we inhabit.
Vera and the crew for this epic series of stories have really gone beyond my favorite Nenetl of the Forgotten Sprits which we reviewed for Greentea earlier. The quality of the comic books coming out of Greentea publishing should not be overlooked. They are really cranking some amazing story lines, no spandex, and where the twists and turns in the plot line are so worth paying attention to. Some of these you need to re-read just to make sure you get all the nuances. This is in my opinion what comic books should be about, and Greentea hits it right on the head. Twisted, dark, deep, impressive, I want to read more of these story lines, especially the afterwards or follow-ons.
I am going to rate this one five of five stars, well drawn, exceptionally well written. Comic books as an art form, Greentea has it all. Easy to read, brilliantly colored, there is nothing here that will distract or detract from the story lines. The follow on to this and the Nenetl should be fun to read and are on my pull list when I can get them. You of course can get them directly from Greentea Publishing right here. You will not be disappointed, they are exceptional.
